NEWCOMB ACHIEVEMENT DATA PROGRESS

On the state SBAC testing last spring, students in grades 3-8 at Newcomb showed steady improvement.  With a 3% increase in our English/Language Arts scores, and a 4% increase in Math, Newcomb's overall proficiency exceeded other K-8 schools in our district.  In grades K-5, our Newcomb students earned the highest overall proficiency rate in the district on the Benchmark Book Assessment of Reading.  Keep up the great work, Spartans!

www.lbschools.net and following the below instructions.

1. Hover over Schools
2. Click Accountability Reports
3. Select a school from the appropriate drop down menu and click GO!

If you do not wish to use a computer, feel free to visit the office of any school and ask for a copy.

Sincerely,

Good afternoon eighth grade families,

We hope you had the opportunity to attend and learn about our high schools during the “explore” phase of the School of Choice process this year.

Tomorrow, at approximately 9:00am, our School of Choice application will open for all active/registered eighth grade students via ParentVue. Your middle or K8 school and Team High School Choice will be ready to assist families in navigating and completing the application in a variety of ways.

Reminder: All families need to complete an application for high school through ParentVue.

Middle/K8 School Support:

Select staff at your current school site have been trained and will be able to assist you, if needed. Please call the office or review the school's School Loop homepage to find out what dates and times you may visit.

Phone:

Parents with questions or those needing assistance can call the Choice Helpline at (562)997-8306 and leave a message for us to return the call. We will return all calls as quickly as possible, and please keep in mind that there is no benefit to completing the application first. As long as the application is completed in the system by 11:59pm on December 20, 2017, it will be considered on time.

In Office:

We welcome parents that would like assistance with the application to drop in to our office at 1515 Hughes Way, Long Beach, CA 90810, on the third floor. We are able to assist families anytime from 9:00am through 4:30pm, on any business day of the application window.

Instructional Videos:

Our team has updated our instructional videos and they are now featured at the very top of our website: http://www.lbschools.net/Departments/School_Choice/hs_choice.cfm

Videos are available in English, Spanish, and Khmer, and are about six minutes in length. While I understand that many parents will forego this step, taking a few minutes out of the day to watch one helps to answer many questions parents have about the application itself.

Parents who successfully complete the application and certify their choices receive a confirmation document, sent to their registered email address. If a parent does not receive the document within 30 minutes, we encourage them to check their junk or spam folders first, and if it isn’t there, to call the Helpline. This is the timestamped proof of pathway selection, what ranking each pathway is at, and that the application was submitted on time.

We have had record numbers of families participate in our events this year, and we thank you. It speaks volumes to your commitment and involvement in your student's education. Our high schools look forward to your partnership in fall of 2018.

We wish you all a restful Winter Break and the happiest of holiday seasons.
